Hay-Wells syndrome
Hay-Wells syndrome is a rare form of ectodermal dysplasia. The main symptoms are cleft lip and palate, ancyloblepharon and ectodermal defects.
Patients suffer from sparse, wiry hair, missing eyelashes and nails. The teeth are usually smaller, deformed and prone to tooth decay. Unlike other ectodermal dysplasia, patients have constricted and shortened eyelids, which are rarely completely occluded.
The patients’ sweat production is usually reduced.
Some patients additionally suffer from difficult-to-treat scalp dermatitis, which can become tired in scars and hair loss.
